Important double stone capital, carved on all faces and adorned with a bold vegetal relief decoration. The basket displays a profusion of stylised foliage with generous volumes.

The leaves, treated in a broad and rhythmic manner, unfold beneath a simply moulded abacus, while the base has a rounded form that enhances the monumentality of the piece. The strong relief, vigorous modelling and stylised forms reflect the sculptural vocabulary of late Romanesque architecture, at the threshold of the early Gothic period.

Designed to crown a pair of supports or mark an architectural angle, this double capital once formed part of the ornamentation of a religious building or prestigious structure, where vegetal decoration symbolised abundance, vitality and the order of the world.
